Life moves too fast, I wake up at 5:30 almost every morning and I'm one of those people who have great difficulty in being able to do nothing and just relax. I enjoy keeping myself occupied and making sure that I have something planned for every hour of the day. This is not a healthy and sustainable lifestyle to maintain, hence why I would like to share with you some tips and tricks that help me slow down and enjoy life!

1. Sports

 

I do not consider myself to be an athlete, but I am a person who rides my bike every morning. This allows me to reduce my stress levels and start my day with positive and motivational thoughts. As my alarm goes off, cycling is the last thing on my mind because I would much rather continue to sleep in. Even on those mornings where I am not motivated, I force myself to get out of bed, get dressed and spend the next 30 minutes on my bike. Some days are much easier than others, but one thing is certain, by the end of my 30 minutes I am extremely proud of myself!

2. Spoil yourself!

 

Spoiling yourself will indirectly help you to relax. There are times where we're faced with several problems in life that taking a break is the best solution. This can help you to put aside all emotions in order to better analyze the situation. There are many different ways to spoil yourself, which can include buying yourself a massage or facial to your favorite spa. Or you can give yourself a hair mask or manicure while listening to relaxing music, the possibilities are endless! It is important to learn to love yourself and be able to have some alone time. So, when planning out your weekly activities, remember to schedule in some alone time!

3. Zoo Therapy

 

Zoo therapy is something I never believed in, but now I am confident to say that spending some time with your pet can help you decompress. Did you know that it is scientifically proven that animals have a positive effect on most people? When I spend time with Fluffy (my small cute dog, see image below :)), it definitely makes me feel good and happy. The presence of animals is beneficial for kids, youths, adults and even seniors! 4. Meditation:

 

Meditation is hard for a lot of people. I'll take myself as a perfect example; I find it almost impossible to be able to clear my mind from all of my thoughts. Meditation is a technique that allows you to rest your mind and attain a state of consciousness that is different from your normal state. The purpose of meditating is to allow you to be able to think clearly and be able to better deal with stress. As little as 10-15 minutes a day can make a significant difference in your level of happiness and ability to deal with stress. Finding a way to relax is not easy, but learning to listen to your body and to see what makes it happy can only have amazing long term results. The better you are at dealing with stress, the more efficient you will become, and ultimately the happier you will be!
